NGE EVA Hedgehog’s Dilemma Pullover Hoodie

The Hedgehog’s Dilemma was the title of Episode 4 of NGE and to an extent discussed In the series, by Ritsuko Akagi, who uses the phenomenon to explain the emotional status of Shinji Ikari to Misato, saying, “Even though a hedgehog may wish to become close with another hedgehog, the closer they get, the more they injure each other with their spines. It’s the same with some humans. The reason Shinji seems so withdrawn is because he’s afraid of being hurt.” The Dilemma is used to explain introversion and self-imposed isolation.

The original show was much more than just some mechs fighting, the psychological aspect was something you wanted understand and get to the root cause of, at least for me. And the reason this project meant so much to me.

I didn’t want to just put some cute random Rei and Asuka  print somewhere and call it a day. Because the show deserves more than that. It was dark and sometimes twisted, it wasn’t just fanservice.

The back print is a sketch of the famous scene in Ep. 5 where Shinji went to Rei's apartment to give her ID pass and due to some events falls on top of her. I was just so fascinated by how much emotion and lack of emotion was conveyed just by their eyes.

Right arm print is from a Book titled 2015: The Last year of Ryohji Kaji. Where they only released 2015 copies back in 1997.  It has some extracts of poems, field notes, memos and photos taken from Kaji’s perspective. Which was very interesting. Abandoned memos was something I read over and over and needed it on the hoodie.

Each print was Hand-screened by me using 3 layers of ink to get it opaque and durable. Almost twice the amount of work than laying down black ink but worth it.

Washing recommendation: flip it inside out, light to medium soil level, tumble dry on low or hung dry.

After first wash you may notice small specks of white, that’s just the top rough layer ink getting softened down. Don’t worry about that. Prints not going anywhere. It’s very durable.

High 90/10 cotton blend, nice and comfy, very durable and pill resistant.

this was one of the more expensive projects to create but was well worth it.

Fits true to size.

If you’re a fan of the original series and even the rebuilds you’ll appreciate this jacket. It’s definitely not like anything you’ve seen before. A lot of time and work went into it.

I won’t be restocking this anytime soon so If you’re thinking twice. Don’t.
